Don't understand the logic of requiring that week two assignment be placed before week one. Also, due having taken online courses in an totally different environment, getting accustomed to Black board is a small challenge. Please correct me but the down loads of software are not a major issue?
Week One Observations of the Readings:
- If books, CD's, ipods and DVD's are all just containers what will containers of the future become? What about the issues of copyright (will the content have the protection of the law or will the container ?). OCLC report: Information Format Trends: Content, Not Containers (2004)
- Working in a public library as I do provides a clear view of the differences between those who have a working knowledge of computers and the Internet vs. those who cling to analog methods and thinking. The time factor in searching for information (be it for pleasure or to fill a practical need) is accelerated for frequent computer uses. I would display that difference as the difference between the efforts of someone who is struggling just to learn how to read and someone who is capable of speed-reading both addressing a hundred words of text.

I think Dr. He meant for us to do week one's readings, open the blogger account, post notes about the readings, and then do week two's readings all by today. I think the "Due Tuesday" part was really just the posting of the blog links in the Discussion Board.
Don't forge1t to read others' blogs and comment
wow, given what stephanie said, i think we have numerous muddiest points. you container questions are good ones not to mention the question of copyright...
Tee
I have to give you serious credit in asking a very good point about copyrighting and I have no clue how to answer it.
Although my guess is like a lot issues in our world we will cross that bridge when we come to it. Not saying I agree with that philosophy but it's just the way it is.
Much like back in the 1980's when dual cassette players were made many musicians were angry over their work possibly being pirated, and back in the early part of this decade with downloaded music. No one knew how to deal with it then the laws on the books were not designed to deal with those situations. So the laws had to be done, in many cases, on-the-fly.
Thanks Stephanie C.
I have read several blogs and responded to Peter's and Elizabeth's first.
JP,
Having aspirations of the "Great American Novel" copyright issues are an interest for the intellectual protect offered, but as a user of the internet and web as a research tool I see the value of open-source applications and information. Finding a "happy medium" between access and protection is the challenge of the future.
I agree with you that finding a "happy medium" between access and protection is a challenge for the future.
My question is I wonder how many "false-starts" or times we will go through "trial & error" before we finally do find our happy medium?
It should be an interesting process to watch unfold.
I also wonder what the next generation of containers will be like. Being the mother of two teeage boys, I don't think that smaller is always better. I've sent several ipods throught the wash and cell phones are always being missplaced.
I also wondered about the copyright issues. Will a "Napster" type situation eventually happen?
